What is Real Time?

Interactive Realtime is the instant translation of shorthand into English.  The attorney's computer is connected to the reporter's computer and a specialized program then performs the translation.  Within seconds, testimony is displayed in draft form on your screen.
Testimony or questions are immediately available for reference, which is useful for impeachment as well as for clarification purposes.  You may walk away from the proceedings with a draft of the transcript, for immediate preparation of pleadings or next-day depositions.

Quality matters.  A realtime reporter should be producing a transcript that is readable with a minimum of 98% translation into English.  If you can't read it, you can't use it.  A realtime reporter should be able to troubleshoot connection problems and help you get up and running quickly.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Ask for a real time reporter.  Before the deposition check with your firm's IT department to make sure you have the software loaded for receiving real time.  Next, send the reporter a notice, word list, unusual words or spellings, or any other helpful information that may come up during the deposition.  Arrive early to the deposition to allow time for the reporter to get  the equipment ready to real time.
